The Harkentale Saga
Holtgart
Before the Dragon, the Cyfandir was a sleepy, peaceful place. After a young dwarf, Angus Redbeard, comes face-to-face with it, he finds himself on a journey to warn neighboring nations and peoples of the danger. Along the way, Angus has to learn how to be the hero he pretends to be, finding opportunities to prove his worth in places from the mountaintop fortress of the Sliver to the seaside canal city called the Veyns. Will he have the strength of character to become the hero he’s supposed to be? With help from his new friends, the bombastic bard Johnny Brightshirt and the eminently capable Alene, Angus manages to upset the delicate balance of nations, beginning the period of upheaval we know now as the Cyfandric Cycle.
Pickled Marble
Raised from birth to be a Queen, Alene enjoys the challenges of leading the Veyns. As she wrests economic power from the long-established Trade Temple, she digs deep to discover the balance between compromise and power, forming an entirely new government and trade paradigm in the process. When the nearby town of Veynsport is annexed by Ivonia, Queen Alene must act decisively to avoid losing it all. Does her dwarven mentor, Bedwyn Foresight, still have the knack for strategy Alene needs to prevail? Can her friends arrive in time to help with her predicament? Lord Protector Angus and the mysterious Indaria make their best attempt, as does Captain John. When faced with the choice between the Queen’s life or theirs, what will they do?
Dreamvine
The Dreamvine always exacts a price, according to Indaria. Neither Angus nor Johan knew that price before they were committed to pay it. Now they are haunted by not only their dreams, but also those of others long passed. For Angus, those Dreams open doors and convey abilities - abilities that will be needed before the end. But each Dream comes with its own cost, one which the dwarf may not always be able to afford. Johan’s experience is very different, and he finds ways to translate those costs into benefits for many, at least at first. When the events of the first book, Holtgart, catch up to them with an adversary that makes Angus’ Dragon seem benign, the friends must work together to see if they can save the Cyfandir from an unpleasant end.
Ivon Nova
It’s good to be the Ivon.Johan is comfortable with the new power he has after his sudden advancement, but it isn’t long until he realizes that being the most powerful man on the Cyfandir doesn’t translate to the larger world. The legendary Dragon Uvrede, who nearly destroyed Ivonal, came from somewhere, and it certainly wasn’t anywhere on this continent. Now he has to know what is out there. He’ll spare no expense to learn. To be sure he gleans everything, Johan starts the Bard Corps and tasks them with collecting the stories of all peoples and indexing them in a Codex Bardic. Can Johan hold on to power long enough to learn the secret of Mirekka? Will the nascent Bard Corps succeed in the biggest story-gathering in memory? Find out in Ivon Nova, as we close the Cyfandric Cycle and prepare for the next volume in the Harkentale Saga.
